Also, I did learn that I’m supposed salt and oil the tomatoes! Thank you! I’m excited to try caprese salad again this summer with my home grown tomatoes.

Bianca, I am so grateful for this recipe. You're so right, caprese salad absolutely does need a recipe — I've also had so many bad ones in my life time.

The tips you've shared are fantastic — I didn't realise that tomato slices needed to be oiled and salted in a bowl before placing on the sheet. And who knew that you needed to rub your basil in the tomato juice! Wow.

I guess that's the great thing about Italian cooking, it seems super simple, but there's actually a lot to it. Almost always involving incredible produce (how red are those tomatoes you photographed!??).
